Kickball Standings, For Your Amusement

October is Launch/Anniversary/Exhibit/All-Star/Playoff Togetherness Month:

October 2 -3 (day and evening): First up, is Smitty's 'Slotcar Fury' Exhibition, going on Saturday and Sunday, from 4 - 8 at Matchless. 'Tis a Great Happening to be, based off his showing at the Mark. Also, what's cool about Matchless is that it's right across the street from the Kickies venue, Enid's. So, go get all pretentious with yo Kickies date, eat some cheese with Smitty then head to Enid's. Getting back to Smitty, I love his ability to "specialize in developing visual solutions for clients in the fashion, entertainment, and lifestyle industries." Is anyone better than he at "utilizing the widest available spectra of media - from letterpress to digital - He creates ad campaigns, CD packages, magazine layouts, logos, and promotional items that provoke and entice like no other." I guess not. Notice how "He" is capitalized, as if he's God.

"I love you Smitty, but I'm late!" - Chiara Sullivan shrieks, outside of a church next to Smitty's place

Then, Immediately following Smiity's Show...

October 3,(evening): The Kickies! Who's gonna win nicest ass? (i can't believe Jens is a Nominee for that and I'm not.) Show at Enid's, this Sunday at 8, and watch me roast the shit outta mutherfuckers. We got about 30 trophies for all you kids, guaranteeing fairness and drunkenness.

Tuesday Night, October 5th, The Mark Bar's 1st Anniversary! This sexy flyer tells it all:

Then 2 Weeks Later....

Tuesday, October 19th, at the aquatically mesmerizing Coral Room, starting at 7 and ending when you're broke...is Kickball's All-Star Game Fundraiser, Sponsored by Miller Beer! Get loaded on *Free Genuine Draft*, while ogling mermaids as you Support our Women and Men in the 1st ever (been alot of first-evers this year) Battle of Philadelphia: Brooklyn vs. Baltimore, set to take place the following weekend, October 23-24, in the City of Brotherly(?) Love. There's a 10 dollar cover, but again, there's free beer, plus another drink special to be announced, and we've got three great Musical Acts:

Adrian Hibbs & Co, Organist Extraordinaire, with a sweet blend of Soul, Funk, and Hippedy-Hop

or, go with what his website says, from which I can't cut and paste the text from:

The Vitamen

Using an "IndiePop" style, "The Vitamen's classically-written songs are painfully honest, invariably moving and often hilarious expressions of modern urban neuroses. " - Tris McCall (who i wish were playing too)

The Negatones (Sweetpea's Band!)

"The Negatones ROCK! Well, now you think I'm being sarcastic, but no, really, they do. This is about as good a rock band as you can possibly ask for. Their experimentation with form and integration of electronic elements are simultaneously courageous and stylish, and they have the instrumental skill to successfully harmonize their prog-rock ambitions with their very infectious sense of humor. Justin Braun is an absolute rock on bass guitar, underpinning these songs with sturdy precision, and providing a launching pad for Jun Takeshta's stratospheric leads. The songs take odd twists, pile huge and demented riffs upon a superstructure of twisted steel rhythm playing, drive through dark lyrical tunnels, arrive at secret bunkers in the heart of the city. Gigantic elastic bands of guitar snap and bend with vicious twangs, the amphetamine roar of treble suffuses J Braun's (Sweetpea) relentless yelp, the words come in a torrent, like a hard rain on a tin roof. This is rock majesty -- undeniable, royal, crazy, angry as a deposed prince, amusing as his scheming jester."

- another homage from Tris McCall (this man writes more than Prince, very eloquently at that, and on subjects far more important than Kickball. Definitely check his site out)
