Congratulations to the Bacon Bits for advancing to the Finals, by shutting out Prison! They will play this Sunday against the winner of the JCMs-Commitments game, which was canceled last night due to rain. Once they completely replay that game from the 1st inning, we'll have our finals.
Also, Congrats to Black Betty of the Williamsburg Softball League. They 3-peated.
The reason why we're having a 2nd Final Night is because September 28th was the first time a cold downpour ruined September Madness. We had a good run.
I was shocked, embarrassed, disappointed and insulted by the bad spirit coming in the 2nd game. This is not how I want the best teams representing the league. Save the stupid, aggressive bullshit for the front lines. Everyone involved should be ashamed for their arrogance and violence. These exceptions to the otherwise friendly and sexy nature of our league are giving us a undeserved bad name.
To the midget (Dave) from Prison: stay the fuck away, for now and forever. Hope you can think of something better to do on Sundays, maybe there's a lollipop guild you can join. People like you have nothing better to do than be annoying and destructive. Go do it somewhere else. Your team's loss was not everyone else's fault.
Let's do this Final Night Right. Never Scared is kind enough to bring their dope sound-system, so don't forget your dancing shoes. I want the crowd to be boisterous yet good-spirited. Everyone be merry and have a good time, win or lose. If not, Brooklyn Kickball will become a league for retarded children next year, and maybe you'll learn something.
Enjoy, and may the best team not only win, but be cool about it too. Also, the Kickies have been kicked back a week, to October 19th.

The Final 4
So here we go again, Kids. The Big Dance is approaching its Last Waltz. Let me offer my congrats to Prison, the Bacon Bits, The John Cougar Mellencamps, and the Commishments, aka the Commitments, aka The Non-Committals, aka Team Mixon. They all battled hard to make it this far. 3 out these 4 had to play 3 times to advance, let's go through these series one by one:
Prison v. Sugartits: Prison won the first and third games handily, but got beat in-between. That's what I love about the Best of 3 format. While anything can happen in 5 innings, you have to prove it twice. Prison was the favorite, slipped up a little, but showed why they've been one of our best teams for 2 and a half seasons now. Big ups to the Tits for making Prison sweat a little, but now Prison is stronger for it. I hope the Sugar Tits return next season, bigger and sweeter.
Mellencamps v. Never Scared: Both of these squads have emerged as my personal faves, as they got alotta spunk, talent, and hotness. However, The JCMs practiced on Saturday and really took it to Never Scared. What I witnessed from their 2 games were just 2 separate scoring flurries from the JCMs. I don't like to see anyone upset, and I feel bad I didn't see any teal shirts after their last game. Never Scared, there's always time for a beer with me. You put your hearts on the line and never be ashamed of that. Did anyone see Justin's one-of-a-kind cuff links at the Dance? They were hilarious. We'll hook up soon, and to Dan Clark, their captain, kudos to you for keeping your spirited team together. However, once again, the Mellencamps will vie for the Cup, and the 28th may finally deliver that elusive, glorious Sunday. Many were pleased to see Eli Myers' triumphant return to McCarren. While only a cameo, twas good to see him.
Bacon Bits v. Redeem Team: I umped all three in this series, and this matchup was tight. In their collective 15 innings, 12 of them were scoreless. Both of these teams field very well, and are very methodical. There was even some drama from these typically sedate teams. But they feature many super dope dudes, and I often Gchat with their respective captains. My hat is off to Tough Kev Kennedy for taking the Dreamers very far. Next season, they should get another infielder and move Brad, their talented southpaw 3rd baseman, to the outfield. Hopefully Maria won't get knocked up, and she'll finally become a champ. Russo, no one wants it more for you than me, kiddo. God knows I tried when we were Malones.
New Frontiersmen v. Commishments: This 3 game Main Field rematch of last year's semi-final was captivating. Their first game went into extra innings and everyone was watching it from all over the field. It even delayed the beginning of the Never Scared-JCMs second game on the Outhouse. As I was umping the Monster, I noticed the Frontiersmen with a runner on third on the brink of ending it. But somehow, as always, the Orangesle-, errr, Burnina--, oh yeah, the Commitments held tough and won it. Then Zach approaches me and asks if the New Fronts can delay the 2nd game as Mike Altman, the New Fronts captain, is returning from his mother's wedding in Pennsylvania. I didn't mind, but then I suffered the wrath of Jesse Alexander, who hadn't yet completed all his work prep for Monday. So everyone waited, and the resilient Frontiersmen took the 2nd game. Now Jesse was really mad at me. But the third and final 5 innings went the Commits way, and Sportz returned to his old self. To the New Fronts, you had an excellent season. You put defending champs on the ropes, and I hope one day you make it all the way to 'Frisco. For Sportz and Wheelz, they will now compete in their 5th Final Night. No one else can make that claim.

Yesterday was a blast, and I am stunned we finished all the games before 10:15. We had only 2 forfeits, and those teams are being burned in effigy next week. Kidding, those are nice peoples, and I hope they can get their act together for next season, if they have one. What to do if a team forfeits, should the "winner" get a Mercy or Regular Win? I contended with this issue all week, and the main reason why I wanted every game played. One can say, well this Favorite would have mercied their underdog, or whatever, but in the end, I decided that we cannot assume the Mercy. Also, in baseball, if a team forfeits, the score is 9-0, or a run an inning. Here, we'd only award 5 total runs, and 5 ain't 10. Sorry Fun Club and Prison. I did everything I could to avoid this situation.
Yesterday yielded no real upsets or surprises, and there were 14 Mercy Rulings, none coming from the Commishments or the Ye Olde Fashioneds. Now, unfortunately for the latter, if they are to claim the coveted "Josh Gibson" Division Title, they must either Mercy the Sugartits or beat them twice. Big Side Note: I must take this moment to offer my condolences to Erin and Doug Gardner of the Tits, on the passing of their father. That is one of toughest and most bizarre experiences anyone must ever endure. My heart goes to them, and this is their 4th season now. The Tits have the 2nd longest tenure in the League, so when you see them this week, give them some props, love, and beverages.
Nobody clinched their division yet. This week, each Division's 1 and 2 seeds will battle, and we have some very interesting matchps on the 14th. There are 4 clinching games going on among them. The Fun Club will party with the Redeem Team, and all the Redeemers must do to clinch is Tie. Commish's new team, The Sisterhood, takes on Never Scared, and that will be epic. I have Never Scared's entire new uniform, and I will wear it as we beat them. Big ups to both teams: they contrast boldly, but are two of the best. While I like Never Scared's hoopla and chutzpah, I also fancy the Sisterhood's calm. One thing you should all know about these Divine Sisters: they can mutherfucking kick as well as anyone in the league. So Look The Fuck Out.
