Dear All,

As the season winds down, and I make these last few schedules, I take time to reflect. Hell, I always reflect but I want you to hear me on this. I will be brief.

When we started kickball, I didn't want teams, nor did we ask anyone to form them. The spirit of our league was that it didn't matter, and therefore we didn't even consider organized teams and standings and schedules and what not. With teams come rivalries, and rivalries bring acrimony. I much prefer harmony. That's why we had our first dance in early June 2004: to ease tension between rivals. That was only one month into our first McCarren season, and I was already trying to salvage Eden! Hell, in 2003, my biggest worry was how not to offend anyone when we formed impromptu squads every week.

This league has two goals, sometimes conflicting: to guarantee seeing all your friends if you didn't all week (god knows it's tough to get all your friends in one place at one time), but it's also meant to defeat cliques and bring together as many people as possible. So many of my close friends came as teammates and as rivals, and I would like you all to get to know your "rivals" better. That's what I tried to do at the captains' party and throughout the season.

So here we are now, with all these awesome teams - Rookies, Sophomores - even some Veterans - mathematically eliminated, thinking the season is over.

It's not. So don't get gushy yet

Yes, purity of the Playoffs is important, but what's paramount is your good time. So, for this week and until the 28th, I tell you all: Come and Play! You should while it's still warm, and you paid for it. This is your chance to play with or against people from different teams with him/her/them, and get to know each other better. I will provide beer for as many as I can, just come ask me.

Yes, I will prioritize the games I must, but the field will be reserved for everyone. I don't care who you are and how good or bad your skills are. Everyone is invited and all are entitled.

Love,

Kevin Fucking Dailey, Your Commish

PS - Warsaw is something, huh? Big ups to Sarah Freeman (Booze) and Julia Morrow (Dolls) for being co-Commishes of the Dance. See, people from 2 different teams working together = beautiful.

Here's something to help you, lifted from the Kickbacks' website:
