Brooklyn
Kickball has seen its fair share of interesting teams over the
years. People from across the 5 boroughs and even some maniacs
travel all the way from Jersey to kick it at the park and play
some ball. 2007 has some bright new teams as well as some well-established
veteran teams. Stay tuned as more teams join the ranks of Brooklyn
Kickball. More bios coming soon.

We're
Having Much More Fun - X |
| Brief
Description: |
The Tigers, borne of the sons and daughters of Westchester,
bonded together over the course of a migration and a
coming of age that has been unfolding for over six years.
Soaked in booze and adrenaline, the dance-partying tribe
from the north took on like-spirited newcomers and decided
to further solidify their bond under the sign of the
Tiger. Itching to sharpen their claws and their wits,
the Tigers caught wind of Brooklyn Kickball in the midst
of its classic 2004 season. Cheering on gang members
Bill and Charlie, as well as their fun loving and ultimately
victorious teammates, the Orangesleeves, the Tigers
decided to enter the fray at the start of the next spring
with a team of their own. As a kickball team, the Tigers'
strength lies in their ability to cultivate and channel
the energy of the entire group into the physical and
strategic strengths of the individual. The Tigers' wide
age range and diverse abilities give the gang and the
team qualities that surpass the typical group of humans.
The Tigers, though they are all quite friendly, did
not come to make friends; they already are friends.
The Tigers play by the rules and don't mind utilizing
the lovely loopholes therein. They don't treat kickball
like a fashion show but somehow manage to look more
glorious than most. Loved and hated across the entire
league, the Tigers have found themselves in a position
of being one of the old standbys due to the influx of
new teams since the beginning of the 2005 season. With
Tiger Balm on their limbs and booze on their breath,
the Tigers call out: "You are all my bitches!"

Description: |
Sugartits!
(March 24, 1930 November 7, 1980) was an American
kickball team, nicknamed "The King of Cool".
They were one of the biggest Kickball draws of the 1960s
and 1970s due to a popular "anti-hero" persona.
Sugartits! was combative with directors and other teams;
regardless, they were able to command large salaries
and were in high demand.
In 2005 Sugartits! reunited and joined the Brooklyn
Kickball League. Not to be outdone by prior incarnations
Sugartits! remains combative with directors and rival
teams but they still enjoy immense popularity due to
their "anti-hero" persona.

Started
by a group of kids as a way to work off a hangover,
Kickball Fever would meet in various ballfields throughout
Franklin Square on Long Island. After playing kickball
and drinking the remnants of the previous night's keg
for a few years, the Fever caught word of this Brooklyn
Kickball league and decided to get in their cars, throw
on some brown T-shirts and try to put a hurtin' on some
hipsters. First game in the league resulted in one of
their opponents suffering a broken leg and another suffering
a miscarriage. That basically sums up the Kickball Fever,
the most menacing bunch of animals to ever step foot
on a playground.

The
E! True Hollywood Story:
Inception: After living in Brooklyn for a few years Julia
and katrina decide to finally look into this kickball
league they have been hearing about. Julia who is adept
at getting things done and nipping procrastination in
the bud decides to use her cyber-nerdtacular abilities
and finds out everything she would ever need to know about
BKKB via the internerd using her myspace prowess. Julia
and Katrina decide to start a team, before even asking
anyone to play they decided to pick a name to decide what
kind of team they would have. The Malones were almost
named "Team Get Some" but Karl Malone and Mailmen
rang true with the tag line Julia terribly boasted, "we
deliver on Sunday". Why Karl Malone you ask? besides
for the fact that purple is the best color ever for a
uniform and the color of the Utah jazz, we thought it
would be comical to use a basketball player who was a
complete douche bag and exploit his name. Karl Malone:
dirty cheater (check), member of the NRA (check) and drives
a big rig (check). Also John Stockton and the Mailmen
just didn't have as nice of a ring.
Players: During the start of the 2006, as an infant organization,
the Malones roster consisted of 25+ people. Basically
it was a shit show with people everywhere, players got
to play two innings if they were lucky. Finally less people
started showing up as more beach days arrived and we had
a more normally sized roster. Julia and Katrina manned
this team with people coming from all over brooklyn, manhattan,
long island and of course williamsburg and greenpoint.
As the season drew on, one player on the Malones became
disgruntled due to our losing record, free spirited behavior,
and drunken antics (eventhough the Malones always won
at having the most fun). Julia and Katrina were faced
with opposition from some of the more competitive players
on the team. What to do? Enter Commish. Commish decides
to give the Malones some help in playing to win. Unfortunately
some personnel on our team did not like the new addition
and they broke off from the Malones to create their own
team, everyones favorite jerks, Team Prison.
Season 2006- When all drama was said and done the Malones
core for 2006 consisted of Julia, Katrina, William, Maria,
Paul, Commish, Christo, Ryan, Mary, Jeffrey Ro, Vinny
and C-love. Guest appearances were frequently made due
to the flakey partytime all the time nature of the Malone
players by favorites such as Nando, Erick, Shirtless and
the Manning Bros. The Malones shocked everyone and got
their drunken selves together and made it into an admirable
round of the playoffs, getting knocked out right before
reaching the big four. All in all, a great season for
a team with a ton of love and an even bigger love for
booze.
Season 2007- This year the Malones are back with their
sophmore appearance, stay tuned for totally fly uniform
shoes this year and a new shirt logo. Sadly co-captain
Julia has moved to LA for a new job so the Malones will
have some new management this year as the trifecta is
born, adding mary and william to the brains of the operation
with previous co-captain Katrina. As per usual Commish
will be on deck providing spiritual guidance. We have
added a new a and special player to the roster this year,
Ryan of the former Kickerbockers for your viewing enjoyment.
Stay tuned for more for more updates to the Malones 2007
roster. |

Cro-Mags:
Hard Times |
| Brief
Description: |
There
was a time when Prison were the greatest team on earth
- last year, 2006. Prison weren't only New York's most
important hardcore team,
they were a way of life. Frighteningly fearless and fatally
frenetic, tattooed and down for life, they broke the sonic
and cultural barriers in the highly stratified kickball
world. For those of you unfamiliar with underground kickball
history, suffice it to say that every New-Jack corporate
punk-metal crossover kickball team owes its existence
to the path blazed by these maniacal marauders. Most "upstart"
kickball teams talk tough; Prison would rip out your eyeballs
if you started with 'em.
The
Prison story starts with founding member and legendary
kickballer Adam who earned his stripes as the ten-year-old
whiz kid captain behind The Face Kickers - seminal heroes
of the burgeoning Big Apple kickball scene. Stifled
by his situation, Adam felt the urge to step out on
his own. Influenced by the passion and power of Staples'
guerilla kickball
team and amped on the speed-freak metal fury of Twoms'
speed metal kickball outfit, Adam teamed up those two,
along with midwest pro Matthew to create the heaviest
fucking team ever - Prison. Unleashing
neanderthal primal urge and enhanced by state-of-the-art
thunderous brain synchronization, the team's first 10
games in June 2006 were all mercy victories for Prison.
Prison's
Hare Krishna connection came from third baseman Rob
Lotzko. After his numerous visits to the Krishna temple
on Schermerhorn Street in Brooklyn, Lotzko began spreading
the hippie word by handing out leaflets to the kickball
community, convinced of the numerous parallels in their
alternative lifestyles- mostly hemp necklaces. Lotzko
soon joined the fold and became an all-star third baseman.
But
if you want to get to the heart of Prison, come down
and watch a game this season, and watch searing kicks
by pissed off prisoners in their prime. Originators
of New York kickball, malcontents of mccarren park ,
this team will always be more than just a footnote in
the annals of modern kickball. Simply put, they were
the first, they are still the
best, they are...Prison.

Description: |
For
the those of us that remember Tupac and Biggie Smalls,
what we remember most about them is their love of kickball.
And, of course, we all remember when Tupac and rival/friend
Biggie both met their ends notoriously as the result
of an East Coast / West Coast kickball rivalry. In honor
of our fallen friend, role model, and fellow kickballer,
we've established The Hit Em Ups.
The
Hit Em Ups have an appreciation for the finer things
in life, including, but not limited to, scrilla, hoes,
Benzes, slammin bodonkadonks, smokin mad phillies, cristal,
Scarface the movie, and KICKBALL.
A
man of many names, Tupac, Makaveli, Pac, 2pac, Thug
Angel, the rose that grew from the concrete-a rose by
any other name would smell as sweet-taught us a singular
universal lesson, "Don't let 'em jack you up, back
you up, crack you up and pimp smack you up." For
us kickball is about heart and knowing where you come
from, and we're as real as penitentiary steel. We love
kickball like we love our mamas. To all the other kickball
teams who ain't down, ya bout to feel the wrath of a
menace.

Description: |
The
reason the Hi5z exist today is because of one man's dream
to have an excuse to wear short shorts, blow a whistle
in people's faces, high five, talk shit and drink lots
of Sparks on any given Sunday. A group of fortunate souls
joined him in this powerful dream and in the summer of
2006 united under the name Hi5z to play some old school
kickball under the lights of McCarren Park. The first
game we played on Opening Day ended up in us getting destroyed
by The Tigers in like the second inning. But they were
nice enough to take us aside and explain the
rules of the game...not that we caught on for quite a
while. But that's okay, because our main mandate is to
have fun and drink lots of mind-altering substances. Unfortunately,
this caught up with the man with the dream. Out of his
drunken excitement, he managed to break his leg while
sliding into home in a game against The Fever during the
first couple months of the 2006 season, and was out the
rest of the season. The Hi5z carried on though, and even
recruited more people that helped to bring fun times and
wins. So look
out for us in 2007, cause we'll be coming with a huge
team of excited players, good times and the skills to
pay the bills! |
